US cybersecurity initiative

Howard Schmidt, cybersecurity advisor to President Obama, announced the launch of a new web page, proving the commitment of the US government to its transparent cybersecurity strategy.

During his keynote at the RSA conference in San Francisco, Schmidt explained that, ultimately, the US national cybersecurity strategy has two main objectives: "to improve our resilience to cyber incidents, and to reduce the cyber threat”. The commendable web page, now live, details President Obama's Cyberspace Policy Review and identifies 10 near term actions to support the cybersecurity strategy.

Schmidt admitted that there is "still a long way to go" to achieving those actions. "Over the past year, thousands of hours have gone into this policy", he said. "These vulnerabilities are shared, so we need to work together. ... In order to be successful, we must seek new and innovative partnerships, with government, industry, academia, and the public. Working together is the most powerful tool we have.”
