UK party on cybersecurity

The British Conservative Party has published a green paper which, amongst other items of national security, seeks to create a center to deal with cyberattacks against the UK.

In a speech in London, David Cameron -- the head of the Conservative Party -- said that, if elected, his party would create a cyber threat and assessment center because he believed cyberwarfare would be a growing problem in the 21st century.

Cameron's speech on plans for national security in the UK were made as the Conservatives published a security green paper entitled "A Resilient Nation". Beside setting up the cybersecurity center, the document also recommends that the incoming government review key national databases and critical infrastructure systems, as well as scrapping the proposed national ID card system, as part of an overall national security strategy.

Whilst the paper has been dismissed by the Labour government, Cameron's speech drew praise and positive responses from a number of industry leaders, most notably those in the IT industry.
