Next week: Patch Tuesday

Microsoft is planning to deliver two security updates on May 11, addressing two vulnerabilities.

As usual, Microsoft published an advance notification of the patches likely to be released this month in the framework of its regular security update cycle. The software giant will probably issue two bulletins next week. Both patches are rated "critical". One of them is affecting Windows, the other will patch Office.

The software giant will not release an update for the recently announced vulnerability of SharePoint at this time. While the teams are working on that patch, the company suggested to apply the workarounds published in Security Advisory 983438.

Microsoft also warned its customers that all support for the Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2 platforms will end after July 13. Customers should upgrade to either a supported operating system or the latest service pack in order to keep receiving security updates.
