Netsky.Q spreads attached to e-mail messages to addresses collected from the infected computer. The attachment is a 29568 long virus with PIF or SCR extension, usually packed in a ZIP archive.

VirusBuster products offer detection and removal of this worm with database update 7.915 or higher.

I-Worm.Netsky.Q is a mass-mailing worm, collects email addresses from files on the local drives, and sends itself there. It tries to copy itself into shared folders.

The subject line and message body of the email vary. The attachment name varies with the .exe, .pif, .scr, or .zip file extension.

When the Worm is executed, it will do the following:
The worm copies itself to the %Windir% folder as FVProtect.exe. Drops the userconfig9x.dll to the %Windir% folder, and creates here base64.tmp, zip1.tmp, zip2.tmp, zip3.tmp, zipped.tmp files.
In the registry key:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

creates the value:

"Norton Antivirus AV"="%Windir%\FVProtect.exe"

so that the worm runs when starting the Windows.

The manual removal of the virus can be accomplished be deleting the created files and restoring the modified registry setting.
