Leading IT security companies and independent test labs agreed to create AMTSO to address the global need for improvement in the objectivity, quality and relevance of testing methodologies. Beside VirusBuster, founding members included AVG, Avira, Bit9, BitDefender, Dr. Web, Eset, F-Secure, G Data, Hispasec, IBM, Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Norman, Panda, PC Tools, Sana, Secure Computing, Sophos, Symantec, and Trend Micro. Gábor Szappanos, the head of VirusBuster's virus lab, is on the organization's board of directors.

The mission of the AVAR is to prevent the spread and damage caused by computer virus, and to develop cooperative relationship among anti-virus researchers in Asia. AVAR is an independent and not-for-profit organization which is oriented in Asia Pacific region. AVAR consists of prominent experts on computer virus from various countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and U.S.A.

CheckVir is a project for anti-virus testing. The purpose of these tests is not the ranking of anti-virus softwares. The main goal of these tests is that the results of the tests published on this web site help users in the fight against viruses, help anti-virus developers in their work and the anti-virus products become better and free from bugs.

West Coast Lab's Checkmark is a system which tests and certifies computer security products. It is a simple logo which may be carried on the product, on the product box or even on a start-up screen. It shows that the product has been tested and approved to an industry-recognised standard by an independent organisation.

Virus Bulletin tests antivirus programs regularly on a wide range of platforms. The VB 100% logo is awarded to products that detect all In the Wild viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning in Virus Bulletin's comparative tests. The product must also produce no false positives.

EICAR combines universities, industry and media plus technical, security and legal experts from civil and military government and law enforcement as well as privacy protection organisations whose objectives are to unite efforts against writing and proliferation of malicious code like computer viruses or Trojan Horses, and, against computer crime, fraud and the misuse of computers or networks, inclusive malicious exploitation of personnel data.

AV-Test.org is a project of the Business-Information-Workgroup at the Institute of Technical and Business Information Systems at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) in cooperation with GEGA IT-Solutions GbR. In regularly intervals they test anti-virus software on behalf of the producers and for magazines.

The mission of the Wildlist Organization is to provide accurate, timely and comprehensive information about "In the Wild" computer viruses to both users and product developers. The WildList, a list of computer viruses found in the wild and reported by a diverse group of over 55 qualified volunteers, is made available free of charge by the organization.
