World record: nine VB100 awards to VirusBuster in a single test

In a competition of an unprecedented number of antivirus products designed for the Windows XP SP3 platform, VirusBuster's technology won a total of nine VB100 certifications for the Hungary-based IT security vendor and its partners.

Virus Bulletin's most recent comparative review of antimalware products covered solutions running on the Windows XP SP3 platform. A record number of products -- as many as 60 programs -- entered the race, which brought special recognition to VirusBuster. Not only did the company's flagship product, VirusBuster Professional 6.2.51, pass the test with excellent performance, but eight other winning solutions were also based on VirusBuster's.antivirus engine.

"There is an interesting trend in today's antivirus market. A growing number of vendors decide not to develop an engine of their own. Rather, they base their products on licensed technology. We are proud that VirusBuster is one of the handful companies, which are able to provide such technology. A dozen of internationally renowned vendors, including Microsoft, have chosen to license our engine", commented Dániel Székely, the head of the firm's product management group.

“At last we get round to the progenitor of the engine which seems to have been behind half the products in this month’s test. ... [VirusBuster Professional 6.2.51] ran swift and light, got pretty decent scores across the sets, and had no problems achieving a VB100 award. Well done to VirusBuster, as well as to its many partners", wrote John Hawes, Virus Bulletin's testing director in his assessment.

VirusBuster's software demonstrated 100% efficiency when tested against viruses in the wild (ITW), "We are pleased that our product was among the slimmest in terms of memory and processor use. We have also managed to improve our performance in the RAP (Reactive And Proactive) test, which checks the ability of antivirus products to detect and accurately identify new and unknown malware samples", added Gábor Szappanos, the head of VirusBuster's virus lab.

Virus Bulletin (www.virusbtn.com), an independent medium of the computer security industry, has carried out comparative testing of antivirus products for over a decade. The first VB100 awards were issued in 1998, and, since then, they have gained worldwide reputation. The tests focus on virus detection rates and scanning speeds, as well as at how each product fares when scanning a set files that are known to be clean.

In order to win the VB100 award, the product tested must detect all in the wild viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning, but must not generate any false positives when scanning a set of clean files. Once again, VirusBuster successfully met these high expectations, and its technology helped eight other vendors to this precious certification.
